CLIENT: Sherritt International Corporation
ROLE: Graphic Designer
COMPANY: The Works Communications and Design
PROJECT BRIEF: Design the 2011 annual report for Sherritt International Corporation. Sherritt is one of the world’s largest producers of nickel from lateritic sources with operations in Canada, Cuba and Madagascar. The task was to design a strong cover and organizing information into chapters with main and sub headings, pull quotes, charts and a sophisticated, clean and intriguing look. No strategy was required for this year and the company wasn’t employing a strict brand standard.
SOLUTION: This was an interesting B2B piece to design with a lot of creative freedom. One of the requests by this client was to use red laterite (the company’s specialty) on the cover that was shot in various compositions. The blue box containing the logo serves as a visual identifier and continues throughout the inside in various colours as chapter beginnings. The inside cover page acts as an overview of the company and introduces some financial highlights and a vector map of the company’s assets. The introduction spreads are split in three containing photography relating to the content of the specific chapter. The following spread uses three photographs on the left page and all the copy, charts, pull quotes laid out on the right page. This set up is consistent throughout the book.
